Periyar National Park
Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is set high in the ranges of the Western Ghats in Kerala. The park has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary. Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this reservoir meanders around the contours of the wooded hills, providing a perennial source of water for the local wildlife.
Animals found here include elephant, sambar, gaur and wild boars. In March and April, during the driest period here, the animals spend a lot of time near the lake and the elephants can be seen bathing and swimming in the reservoir. You may even get a glimpse of the tiger during this season.
Periyar is also home to leopard, wild dog, barking deer, mouse deer, monitor lizards and a variety of snakes and birds.
The birds include darter, cormorant, grey heron, ibis, great malabar hornbill and grey hornbill, kingfishers, ospreys and kites as well as orioles, hill mynas, racket tailed drongos, parakeets, including the unusual blue winged paraket and fly catchers.
The animals are viewed from motor launches on the lake and from watch towers. A summer palace of the former Maharaja of Travancore, set along the lake, is a hotel and a fine place to stay.

Itinerary:
Day-01:Trivandrum- Peppara
On your arrival at Trivandrum Airport/ Railway Station you will be greeted by our Kerala Wildlife Tour representative. Later you will be drive to Peppara to explore Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary. Check in to the hotel/ wildlife resort and after some rest, you will visit various flora and fauna of the sanctuary. You can enjoy seeing verities of wildlife species like- Tiger, Panther, Wild Dog, Lion Tailed Macaque, Elephant, Gaur, Deer, Mouse Deer, Wild Boar, Nilgiri Langur, Malabar Squirrel etc. The bird species especially the water birds like Darter, little Cormorant, Pied King Fisher and Egrets. Later you can also visit Peppara dam built on the Karamana River. Stay overnight in the resort/hotel at Peppara.
Day 02:Peppara- Neyyar
Check out from Hotel after morning breakfast and you will be drive to Neyyar to explore Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary on second day of your Kerala wildlife tour. Check in to the hotel/ wildlife resort and after some rest, you will visit various flora and fauna of the sanctuary. You will enjoy seeing Elephants, gaur, sloth bear, Nilgiri tahr, jungle cat, wild boar, Nilgiri langur etc. You can spend you time in leisure and can also visit crocodile rearing centre, deer farm and lion safari park of this sanctuary. Stay overnight in the resort/hotel at Neyyar.
Day 03:Neyyar- Thattekkad
Check out from Hotel after morning breakfast and we will drive you to Thattekkad. Check in to the hotel/ wildlife resort in lush greenery environment of rain forest at Thattekkad. After some rest, you will visit Dr. Salim Ali (famed ornithologist) bird sanctuary. You will enjoy seeing the rare species of birds from various parts of the world including Asia and Europe. Your entire day is for local sightseeing Birds lagoon Activities (optional) Bird Watching, Thattekkad Bird sanctuary. Visit Elephant Training Centre and other wildlife or participate in activities such as Boating, Trekking, Mountain Biking, and Jeep Safari. Stay overnight in the resort at Thattekkad.
Day 04:Thattekkad- Periyar (Thekkady)
Check out from Hotel after morning breakfast and we will drive you to Thekkady on fourth day of your Kerala wildlife tour. During en- route journey, enjoy seeing beautiful streams, small water falls, Rubber, Pepper cardamom and Tea plantations and thick forests. Evening enjoy as your free time in leisure. Stay overnight stay in the resort at Thekkady.
Day 05 :Periyar (Periyar wild Life sanctuary)
You are at Periyar for one day to explore Periyar wildlife sanctuary. Enjoy whole day visit of wildlife and expedience the mind bowing view of calm crystal clear Periyar Lake. You will also enjoy the melodious whistles of birds and murmurings of wild animals. Later, on free time, go for a spice plantation tour (optional) or experience the Ayurvedic massage (optional). Stay overnight in hotel at Periyar.
Day 06:Periyar- Kumarakom
On sixth day of your Kerala wildlife tour, you will be drive to Kumarakom to explore wildlife activities at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary (Vembanad Bird Sanctuary). This place is equally popular for backwater fun. Check in to the hotel/ wildlife resort. After some rest, visit the various kinds of flora and fauna at Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. At evening, go for Sunset cruise (optional) or enjoy the beauty of backwater by just relaxing near Vembanadu Lake or enjoy your free time. Overnight stay arrangement will be at the hotel in Kumarakom.
Day 07:Kumarakom-Kochi (Departure)
On the last day of your Kerala wildlife tour, your initial few hours at leisure, later our representative will pick up you from Hotel and transfer you to Cochin Airport/ Railway station to board your return flight/train back to your own destination.
